Well,\u00a0 this year for the better NYCC stepped up their Press requirements.\u00a0 Over last year’s abuse of the press pass.\u00a0 They put their foot down and stomped it hard.\u00a0 But for our purposes since last year, the press pass already lost all its privileges that made it easier to cover events.\u00a0 And being no masquerade or entertainment act to cover in the main room we didn’t need it.\u00a0 We went the VIP route.\u00a0 For a time the VIP route lost is luster as it offered nothing.\u00a0 I remember one year they let all the press in front and wouldn’t let you even move up if there was space.\u00a0 That’s when we started to request press.\u00a0 But last year the roles were completely switched but we were able to run up to the front and cover what we did.<\/p>\n
So with basic level VIP passes.\u00a0 It allows you to use a secondary entrance without having to wait in the large badge check line.\u00a0 They also allow you to use the VIP room.\u00a0 Which over the years transformed from.\u00a0 A Room with one person watching it and you kinda dump your stuff there and under the trust factor nobody stole anything.\u00a0 To now a room with a complete bag check system where a convention staff members watch over your things.\u00a0 And the room now quadruple in size has table, couches and a TV feed from the main event room (which is the same feed they show in the overflow hall).\u00a0 So worth it?\u00a0 For the most part yes.<\/p>\n
As not having to go to NYCC as press it allowed us to again goof off in artist alley as if we do go as press we are obligated to cover events.\u00a0 So we visited some of our favorite artists.\u00a0 Billy Tucci<\/a> is one of the artist we always like to run into,\u00a0 he’s got some great cover art we love to buy.\u00a0 We also were able to score a movie poster of one of his works Shi<\/a> which srying to get a movie developed from the property, hopefully something comes from it.\u00a0 Mike Renzine<\/a> we also liked his pin-up work\u00a0 we ran into him at the 2nd NYCC when his table was stuck behind a structure pole.\u00a0 Since he’s been busy he didn’t have anything new for us to buy.\u00a0 But he gave a test print of one of the projects he made art for “The Art of 88” which he was explaining it was an artbook made by 88 artists. \u00a0 Unfortunately the only information we found from the Kickstarter page which was long done with before the convention and the only way to get a copy was through the fundraiser.\u00a0 And\u00a0Susan Heidi<\/a> is another pin-up artist we like. This year she brought the model she used for her most recent work.<\/p>\n So this year’s comic con was of course overcrowded. They’re still doing construction. Hopefully next year more space will open up to people and hopefully the attendance cap will remain the same. But that’s to hoping. We took a bunch of photos.
