{"id":502,"date":"2011-05-29T00:27:02","date_gmt":"2011-05-29T05:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.conpics.ws\/wp\/?p=502"},"modified":"2013-07-01T00:15:09","modified_gmt":"2013-07-01T05:15:09","slug":"steampunk-worlds-fair-japan-day-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.conpics.ws\/wp\/?p=502","title":{"rendered":"Steampunk World&#8217;s Fair \/ Japan Day 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>May 20-22, 2011<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The<strong> Steampunk World&#8217;s Fair<\/strong> was jam packed with musical events, dancing performances and fantastic costumes.<\/p>\n<p>Music played pretty much all day.\u00a0 The main event room constantly had a band or singer performing in it.\u00a0 There was also a smaller room that usually had a secondary band playing in it as well.\u00a0 The crowds really got into the musical acts; sometimes we&#8217;d glance into the main event room and see a crowd of steampunkers jumping and dancing with strobe lights flashing all around them.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_532\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-532\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.conpics.ws\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/D4D_1255.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-532\" title=\"SPWF's High Noon Gentlemen\u2019s Duel\" src=\"http:\/\/www.conpics.ws\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/D4D_1255-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conpics.ws\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/D4D_1255-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.conpics.ws\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/D4D_1255.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-532\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SPWF&#39;s High Noon Gentlemen\u2019s Duel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But there was more than just music on hand.\u00a0 Literature was also a big presence.\u00a0 We were really impressed that fair had multiple authors on site, some of whom are pretty well-known.\u00a0 The authors could be a little pushy when it came to selling their books, but the panels where they talked writing and books and steampunk were fascinating.\u00a0 These felt more like chats with friends than actual panels. \u00a0Other workshops included activities such as the art of Bartitsu fighting. \u00a0What else was interesting about this convention was that there were so many impromptu events. \u00a0We weren&#8217;t sure if they were part of the schedule or just someone getting a group together outside.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, steampunk technology and fashion was the main event all weekend.\u00a0 Some of the costumes people showed up in were truly impressive.\u00a0 The vendors&#8217;
