Another Cosplay Meet-up in Central Park and other events.

There were a few more events before NYAF in the city so I decided to drop by them.

On August 23, 2009 there was the NYC Japan Street fair.  I showed up because the NYAF was going to have a booth there and have the Maid Cafe members there. Since I’ve met a few of them before at previous events I dropped by to say hi. I only took a few shots because it was way too crowded to stick around. Most of them were shot using the Lensbaby Plastic optic.  In the photos you’ll see the mass sea of people.  I waited and tried twice to stand in the middle of the road  while the traffic was being held up.  But I kept on almost getting run over by idiot drivers that wanted to run into the 42nd street traffic and they had take the widest turn to get to the right of the road for some dumb reason.   It really made no sense the road was 3 car lengths wide its not like there was any traffic on the road.

I also went to a cosplay picnic/meet-up on September 5th in Central Park, NYC.  I caught wind of the event and did some searching and found it on Facebook. (Here if the event link still works)   As with most cosplayers there are a few reliable ones then there are some that do something completely else.   So the group that met up early waited for a long time and the other half that was supposed to meet never showed or bothered to contact us.   We started to wander in the park and there was a wedding going on, then moved into the park losing people in the Rambles due to stopages.  I heard the Robin and guy dressed as a someone from the Spanish Inquisition were asked to take take pictures with the Bride and Groom.  By the time we got to the final spot the group split again to see if they could find the other group.   So I decided to go home and drop equipment weight.  When I got back some of people that were coming late came and everyone that went out searching eventually made it back not finding the other group but they picked up more people on the way somehow.  Then I had a chance to take some photos.

We had a bunch of people drop by.   One guy stopped confused and asked if  there an Anime convention going on.  I spotted some old Japanese dude trying to film the group through the bushes.. I just thought it was funny as everyone else that walked buy just came up to take photos.  The couple that took pictures with the cosplayers even walked by and one of the girls ran up to give one of the flower girls chocolate pocky.  We even had an Inflatable Shark vs Tail object fight going on for awhile then the NYPD drove by with lights flashing on a walkway, we put the fight on hold.   Turned out to be non-related as they stopped to see what was going on and continued on their merry way.  But still it funny seeing the NYPD  driving down the road .  Oh and the Shark eventually did lose to something as he was permanently deflated.  So that was most of the day.  Now time to recover from hauling crap all over the park.
